North Charleston police have charged a man in Thursday's fatal shooting after authorities in Berkeley County arrested him on a traffic stop.

Detectives think the killing near 4600 Montague Ave. stemmed from a botched drug deal, said Spencer Pryor, public information officer for North Charleston police. Witnesses reported a black Chevrolet Tahoe leaving the area after the 3:15 p.m. incident.

Authorities said Arthur Artrell Murray was shot in the stomach and pronounced dead a little over an hour later at Medical University Hospital. Murray died on his 19th birthday.

Joshua Todd Williams, 27, was arrested around midnight Thursday, Pryor said. Williams was expected to appear in Charleston County bond court tonight on a murder charge.

Police said both men have a history of arrests. Williams' includes charges of trafficking cocaine and assaulting a police officer in 2006, as well as failure to stop for blue lights in 2007. Murray's includes a charges of assault with intent to kill in 2006 and cocaine possession in 2007. Police did not say whether the charges are still pending.

The shooting remained under investigation. Pryor said more arrests could be possible.

Another black on black murder. Somtimes I think some people have no value on life. This guy thought he was a big man with a gun. I wonder how he would feel if the bullet went his direction.

"Murray's includes a charges of assault with intent to kill in 2006 and cocaine possession in 2007. Police did not say whether the charges are still pending."

I would hope that common sense would tell people the charges are no longer pending since Murray is dead.

Ditto, Marianne0558. I read the article twice to make sure I was reading it correctly. Surely, prosecutors are not that stupid to wonder if the case will be dismissed, unless there are other people charged. I wonder if the PnC meant the charges on the guy they arrested today.

Note to Tammie: you're correct about the tookus; at least when he goes to "real jail" he'll know what it is stuck up his tookus...........won't be cocaine, will it?

As to another black killing black murder.......what a macabre form of birth control. I know all blacks are not like these guys, but the drug/gang culture has no appreciation for the lives of others. There is never any emotion from them; they see murder as a way to "prove" themselves and hopefully scare off others. The gang/drug culture sometimes requires an inductee to kill someone in order to become a gang member............sick, sick, sick people.

This is a quote from the victim's mother: "He didn't get himself into trouble."

I have a few issues with this quote. If he didn't "get himself into trouble", who did? That is part of what is wrong with people today, no personal responsibility for their own actions.

I hate to speculate when it comes to these things, bit it leaves one to believe that she probably fed into that because he told her that he was set up and never had any drugs and never assaulted anyone.

She probably is one of those that says they are picking on him. I wonder how she explains the accusations that this was a drug deal gone bad? What does she think about that? Had I been a reporter I would have asked her those questions. Where is Nancy Grace when you need her?

All I can say is that not all African American men are drug dealers and killers. There are many of us doing positive things in our communities but bad news sells. I detest drug dealers because of the havoc they bring on a community. Good riddance to these two.
