Radio tribute

XM Satellite Radio will pay tribute to Charleston radio station WTMA on Friday 4-9 p.m. XM Satellite Radio has a 1960s radio channel that plays the popular hits from the decade. Every Friday, the channel pays tribute to a well-known radio station from the era on a show called Sonic Sound Salutes. The XM program features weekly music tributes playing the old-time playlists and the old shows of radio stations nationwide.

This week, Sonic Sound Salutes will be a tribute to WTMA and its programming during the 1960s. XM DJ Terry Young picks a station each week to

feature on the show. Young plays the station's music, recorded station breaks, jingles, commercials and local banter of the DJs of the time. The show also will have a call-in segment, so listeners from Charleston and the nation can call in and talk about the station, the music and the '60s.

"For five hours, we are going to turn our channel into WTMA from the 1960s," said Young. "You'll hear the songs and the jingles and DJs you remember. This is one of our most popular shows. We get calls from people all over the country who have lived in that week's city and remember that station."

Non XM subscribers can sign up for a free, three-day trial subscription and hear the program at http://listen.xmradio.com.
