Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Summerville all grow in Census count

Think the Charleston metro area has been getting more crowded lately? You’re right.

New Census Bureau estimates show that Summerville grew by 59 percent during the past seven years, while Mount Pleasant’s population rose 36 percent.

They were among the 10 fastest growing cities and towns in South Carolina since the 2000 Census.

Bluffton had the fastest growth rate in the state for municipalities with more than 1,000 people, growing 218 percent in seven years, from 1,274 people to 4,054.

But when it comes to sheer population increases, Bluffton’s numbers were dwarfed by what happened in the Charleston metro area.
