Gadsden Green moms opt to move out, avoid court date

The cases of two single mothers facing eviction from Charleston's Gadsden Green public housing because of criminal charges filed against their children was resolved Wednesday, with both women voluntarily opting to move out.
The women were scheduled to be in magistrate's court this week to fight the eviction order but opted to drop their fight and leave.
One of the women will exit in about 45 days, the other in about 60 days.
Their attorney said both women did not want to subject their families to a trial, which would have meant making some of their children testify.
"They want to put this behind them," said attorney John F. "Skip" Martin.
Martin represents Jacqueline Clinton and Elizabeth Speed, whose children were among six teens charged in two armed robbery incidents last fall.
After the charges were filed, the Charleston Housing Authority moved to evict the women, along with three other single mothers whose children were charged. Officials cited a section of their leases which allows entire households to be evicted if any member gets involved in detrimental behavior on or off housing grounds.
The other cases were resolved earlier, with one of the women being allowed to stay, while the others left public housing earlier.
Last October, six juveniles aged 14 to 16 were arrested for allegedly confronting two people in separate incidents near the College of Charleston. One victim was shot in the hand with a pellet gun. Six youths on bicycles were involved, police said.
Gadsden Green is a complex of apartment buildings near the Crosstown Expressway in Charleston and is one of several public housing sites in the city.

Ok so let me get this straight...
These mothers wasted our tax money to live there,
wasted our tax money to fight their evictions,
then chose to leave anyway?
Crock of SHI*

Glad they are leaving. Now, what are they going to do to the brats that started all of this mess?
Someone was shot in the hand. Okay, it was only a pellet gun.
The kids in Mt.P had a pellet gun, and no one was injured.
Two of those are now serving a ten year sentence, so why haven't these kids been brought to trial?
Where's the fairness in this?
Big publicity on kids from the suburbs, but inner city kids go unpunished? Crime is crime no matter where you live.

That should have been what they did in the beginning. Rules are rules. Hope they all learned their lessons!

Both of these "wonderful" mothers had criminal (LYNCHING) and civil charges. I don't know how they got into the housing to begin with.
If they get into another public assisted housing complex, I want to know HOW! Criminal records and multiple evictions (prior to this one) should flag these lazy azzes for non-entry.

It's about time. I wonder when they will try those boys. It's going on a year now and nothing is being said about that case. They just keep revisiting these evictions that should have gone through last year!

Lovely_One, exactly! They have been totally focused on the mothers, and not anything has been said about what they are going to do about the boys that started this whole mess.

"Their attorney said both women did not want to subject their families to a trial, which would have meant making some of their children testify."
They might as well get practice in front of the jury now since (based on the way they are going) they're probably going to end up there later in life.

So they were able to stay 8+ extra months on behalf of the taxpayers when it December it was "Well....we didn't want them evicted over the holidays..."
Do us all a favor and get on a Greyhound outta town!

RTC,
The legal system is really lopsided when it comes to the cases of these boys and the ones from Mt. P. They need to get moving and be just as harsh with the punishment.

It's about time for them to be out. This has gone on far too long. Too much taxpayer money has been wasted on this. They have been provided housing and then fought the evictions which cost the taxpayers even more money. I am tired of my hard-earned money going to support low-life scum like this that think they are entitled to something in life. When you are dealt a bad hand in life, pick yourself up, work hard and get back on your feet. Don't expect those of us that work hard to continue to support your lazy butt.

I pay for these people to live for free. i should be able to go up to anyone of them and make them do any kind of work I need to be done. Start earning that money.
