Beach tips
To stay safe at the beach: --Don't bring a lot of cash. --Don't bring a credit card. --Bring a car key but not the keyless entry fob. --Leave valuables locked in a room or car trunk.
A crowd of swimsuit-clad tourists gathered around the Isle of Palms pier Tuesday as a man freed a stingray from a fishing line. Judy Smith of Greenville, Tenn., was one of about 50 people who ran over to see what the commotion was about, leaving most of her belongings behind as she tried to snap a photo. While her valuables went untouched, those few minutes she was away could have given thieves the perfect opportunity to snatch her beach bag. Police said there have been 20 such thefts since May, and that officers recently arrested an area couple on more than 50 theft-related charges, most of them stemming from using credit cards stolen from the Isle of Palms beach, Lt. Raymond Wright said. "People leave their stuff on the beach, go in the water, and when they come back their bag is gone," Wright said. Misty Dawn Jackson, 24, of Cross and her boyfriend, Randy Scott Singletary, 35, of Ridgeville were arrested Friday on charges related to eight beach thefts. Wright said they were caught because stolen credit cards were used about 10 days ago in Mount Pleasant businesses. Police used store surveillance tapes to identify possible suspects and their vehicle, a white pickup truck with a toolbox in the bed. A beach services officer recognized the pickup Friday afternoon and alerted police, Wright said. Jackson and Singletary are in the Charleston County Detention Center. Jackson is being held on a $26,000 bond and Singletary on $33,174 bond. Since the arrest, Wright said, police are warning people to limit the things they take to the beach. Beachgoers have been taking jewelry, wallets, credit cards and iPods when, Wright said, they should take only the bare minimum, maybe a car key and a small amount of cash. Smith, like most people on the beach Tuesday, acknowledged having more with her than that. She took her $400 camera to the beach and had it with her as she dashed to the pier. But Smith did leave it lying out when she, Wesley Justice and Ashley Smith went for a swim in the ocean early Tuesday. "I feel safe with my 12-year-old going off and playing with other kids," Smith said. And until learning of the thefts, Smith said she felt safe leaving her camera, cell phone and $40 in cash on her towel. "I guess someone could have ate dinner on that," Smith said.

In the spirit of the post above yours, NativeSon, that would be "losers".
And, just in case anyone is thinking of saying "Their gonna get what they deserve from Big Bubba!" it's "they're".

Friggin' crooks are all they are. It takes a really low down dirty person to steal someones property. And especially when their backs are turned.

Don't most thefts occur while the owner is not looking?

Tripsa, not this morning...lol
Morning all!
Why in the Sam Adams would you take your credit cards on the beach with you? What the hell can you buy, a sandcastle? Common sense is free people!
But ole Sweet Thing and Sugar Foot are in a world of trouble. Lol @ Cid, you are so wrong.

So it's safer to leave your wallet in your car than to carry it with you?

Why is her bond less than his? Women ALWAYS get preferential treatment in legal matters.

8theistic, the way criminals operate, it isnt safe to leave it anywhere. I dont carry cash on me and unfortunately, I've had my car broken into and had my wallet stolen. I'd just sooner leave my credit cards home. JMO

Good Morning all! Why in the world would anyone take anything on the beach other than towels, lotion, and car keys?? That's just asking for trouble.
I'm sorry these people were victims of theft, but if they had not have had all that stuff, they wouldn't have had it stolen.

"Officer, I swear... we founded these cards on da beach. We tried to find the peoples that the cards belonged too for over a week. I even called Bucky, my cousin in Alabama, to see if he might knows somebodies that was missin' cards. I finally figured the best way to find 'em was to use the cards and hope somebody would contact us. We wasn't gonna keep the stuff we bought. We was gonna give it to the peoples that rightfully owned dem cards. Honest we was. I told Misty just last night that I was hopin' someone was gonna be contacting us soon cause I felt bad for them peoples that dun lost der cards. We had one more, but we dint use dat one cause my dog Poopoo chewed it up some. That there black strip on the back of the card was all messed up so I figered it wunt werk no more. We ain't gonna git charged for dat one are we?"

Wow, tripsa, taking a jab at Obama so early in the morning.
Anyway, they should make them replace every item those people "say" they lost. I said "say" because if I were them I would add a few extras in the pot. Lol! People just don't want to work for what they want any more. They would rather I work for it and then take it from me. I blame welfare!

Right on the money with that one, Lovely. It's so much easier for these deadbeats to steal from other people who actually work for what they have than to give off of their lazy, welfare receiving butts and work for it themselves.

The pictures are funny as hell. You can definitely tell that Ms. Jackson wears the pants in the relationship. From the look on her face, and on Mr. Singletary's face, I'd say that young Ms. Jackson has also worn a strap-on once or twice in the relationship too...

Where were all the other people when these two pillars of society were rifling through other people's stuff? I guess nobody noticed THESE TWO ???? Doubt they will be charged with too much or have to do too much time. That is, unless they dug any holes on the beach or left their dog off the leash.
**And I hope to goodness I didn't teach this girl when I worked in Berkeley County!! The name sounds familiar and she looks a little familiar. If it is the same girl she was awfully "backwoodsy" and rough. The time frame sort of fits with her current age. Classy!!!

She's made because she has one bad eye socket so they turned to crime.
This is when you flaunt your possessions on the beach and walk away leaving your tote bag full of dog poop and used tampons hoping they do a quick reach in.

I remember when it used to be an unspoken code of honor where no one ever bothered other people's belongings on the beach.
The worst you ever worried about was a dog whizzing on your blanket or chair.
I guess those days died a long time ago.
Hand these two over to some Parrotheads, and they'll take care of them.

Dang, you all are so soft on these bone head thieves.
People work so hard for there money and to save and be able to take a trip, so for them to come an put there hands on someones property, they should have a hand cut of like they do over in the third world if your caught stealing.

Oh my gosh, what a bunch of dumb arse rednecks. I LOVE mugshots!!! Hahaha! Especially the celebrity ones. I personally enjoyed looking at James Brown's. :-)
This is actually pretty upseting. Considering IOP is my favorite beach. (next to Kiawah, but because I live in Goose Creek, the commute is not worth it. Unless of course I happen to be in West Ashley at the time.)
And in the defense of people bringing credit cards to the beach---some debit cards double as a credit card. And that may be the only form of payment they have, because nobody really uses cash now-a-days. I just know its SO durn hard to go to an ATM. And if you have a family of 4 or more at the beach that day, 40 bucks covers food/drink and maybe a scoop of ice cream. As far as the digital camera is concerned---everybody needs a beach picture on their myspace. ;-)

I'm actually stumped on this one. Thieves are despicable. They take the short cuts in life when the rest of us are working hard for what we have. They didn't use a gun though. That's a change from the violent cycle we've been seeing lately. They should get some amount of jail time (I haven't figured out what would be appropriate yet), do some community service, make appropriate restitution to those they stole from AND have to stand on the beach every weekend for a year with signs that say "I'm the dirt bag that stole items from beach goers like you".
No mention of any prior records by the P&C but young Ms. Jackson looks way too comfortable in her mug shot... I'd be curious to know if they had any priors.

MsPiggy-
I see your point. But I guess, to be totally honest, I have always been too cheap to buy anything while I'm at the beach! When my children were younger, we would pack a cooler with drinks and snacks to take with us. And being so fair skinned, we never stayed very long because we didn't want to get too burnt!
And some of us are in no way comfortable enough in beach wear to want a camera any where near us!!!

The point is, it's terrible that you can't spend a day at the beach with your family anymore without worrying about some deadbeat pos stealing your things. I swear, people will steal anything, anywhere. It's sickening. I'm surprised they didn't steal the towels as well.
Although, from the looks of her, she doesn't know what to use one for. Personal hygiene doesn't look like it's high on her list of priorities.

lucy_fan,
I personally pack my own cooler w/ drinks, sandwich, and chips as you mentioned. But I occasionally enjoy a juicy hotdog and/or mango smoothie from the food stand. Forget about the Ben and Jerry's at IOP. I can buy a half gallon of ice cream for those prices.
But lets not forget the gift shops! I only buy my pooka shell necklaces from the beach shops. The one I have now I got from Mr. John's at Folly. :-) They used to sell red-eared sliders at IOP. I bought 2 of them years ago from there. Sorry. A little off subject.

This woman was probably not the owner of that pot field they found in Cross.
I hope they question these two about the rash of break-ins near the IOP connector. They were driving a truck that resembled a work truck, so they could be responsible for some of that.
They obviously don't use the truck for actual work.
It had a tool box containing whips, chains, and cattle prods. Ms. Jackson admitted to being the owner of those implements.

Well, Tripsa...we do have to agree to disagree on Obama...I don't find him the ideal candidate, but I do have more in common issue wise than McCain, so that's where I'm voting. I guess I'm one of the few educated voters with multiple degrees that support him, but so be it. However, I did tell my father in law that McCain is a decent man, and if he won, he's moderate enough in my opinion where I won't have too much of a problem if he does. Enough of that!

i have to be truthful on my feeling here people Not having an education is no excuse for crime. i was brought up in the streets of New York. till i was 15. I left to live with a family memeber because of abuse. now wait a sec you will see where I am going with this.
I never let my past interfer with me. maybe because i am a strong person I got married at the age of 15 and had my first child born when i was 16 I never ever went on welfare and the only time i used food stamps was when my first husband was dying with cancer and there wasnt enough money for food. when my husband died i no longer used them.
what i am gettig at here is I hate when Defending lawyers use this excuse no education poor bad backround abuse.

Lol@ Granny! Dont talk about hubby like that! Lol I don't do MySpace, that's the nectar of the devil just like cold beer. NOT the poster. Lol
LMAO @ This comment:
..."somewhere a rusty singlewide is missing it's tenant".
They probably lived in an old Conner singlewide with bricks for steps and Granny's missing walker as the railing. They probably burn trash in a barrel and have an old 1980-something Yugo that Sugar Foot is planning on doing some amateur racing in at Dorchester Dragway. His goal in life: to get his GED and open a bait and tackle shop. Her dream: to get her GED and get a job as shift manager at the local Dunkin Doughnuts.
*waits for someone to come on and bash every last one of us, tell us we'll all rot in hell, ask who are we to judge, then go on by telling us these two made a mistake and they're paying for it, they're good kids, they ushered in the local church and sang on the choir and read "The Giving Tree" to senior citizens every weekend..blah blah blah...*

Another trailer park brainer story from the AP at Fox News...
POTTER VALLEY, Calif. — A Mendocino County woman who was trying to kill mice in her trailer with a gun ended up shooting herself and another person.
The 43-year-old woman pulled out her .44-caliber Magnum revolver after she saw the mice scurrying across the floor of her trailer on Highway 20 in Potter Valley, sheriff's officials said.
But she accidentally dropped the gun, which went off as it struck the floor. The bullet went through the woman's kneecap, bounced off the keys sitting on the belt loop of a 42-year-old man in the trailer and grazed the man's groin before ending up in his coin pocket.
Authorities did not release the shooting victims' names.
The mice escaped the shooting unharmed.

Oh, and grannyofsix...I'm not going to even respond in a negative way to you. Life has already dealt you a bad enough hand and I don't want to make it worse. But it's really juvenile to resort to name calling, don't you think? At least we are commenting on the story- you, on the other hand, are not. Do you have an opinion on the story? You know, QuitGoofingOff is right. I should do something with my life. The fact that I run a successful business (that allows me plenty of free time to post on here), draw my Navy retirement, go fishing all the time, do a decent amount of wood working, restore old Chevy's, spend time with my wonderful (and sexy) wife and my great daughter, actively participate in anything from my HOA to local governments AND down my share of cold Bud Lights is just not enough...
You know, QuitGoofingOff, what's really amazing about my post count is the short amount of time I posted them in... I fricken RULE! I have a motive for such post though. I have found, through reading others posts, that there are some on here that did not receive a decent education. I have made it my life’s goal to educate them. You see, every once in a while we get a jackass on here that feels he/she needs to demean others. They offer no input, no opinions on the article or issues, they just call people names and try and belittle them with immature comments. My goal is to make them realize that they would be much more successful in their attempts at communication if they acted like an adult and stated their opinions or concerns in a more mature way. Take your post for example. What purpose did it serve beyond that of making you look like an ass? Surly that is not what you intended, and yet, that is all you succeeded in doing. Slide the chair back away from your computer just a tad, take a deep breath and realize... nothing on here is hurting you. Nothing on here is hurting anyone you care about. It's just words. Comments, opinions, concerns... just words. Calm down... relax... and maybe, tomorrow... try again (under a new name, that one is permanently ruined).
Consider yourself schooled. Carry on.

Oh, yes, Lucy Fan. Your comments are always so insightful. Especially the one you posted a little while ago that I have in quotes below:

Sad part she is just 24 years old and look like she lived a hard life. A bottle of vitamin E on your face daily can do some majic right along with washing your face atleast 3x a day & you can wash your face with Ivory. 3 bars of Ivory soap is a buck and the vitamin E cost 3.50 dollars...... less than 5 bucks to take care of your skin and keep you looking young and radiant!

You mentioned you want to educate everyone. What exactly are we supposed to learn from your mindless drivel such as your earlier comments that I have in quotes below?
Coldbeer's Comments: "The pictures are funny as hell. You can definitely tell that Ms. Jackson wears the pants in the relationship. From the look on her face, and on Mr. Singletary's face, I'd say that young Ms. Jackson has also worn a strap-on once or twice in the relationship too..."
You don't rule...consider yourself schooled.

There is only so much that can be said about being careful at the beach. It just takes some common sense to know not to take valuables and leave them lying unattended.
So, has everyone learned their lesson from this article?
Good! Now let the games begin.
Some people need to understand the health benefits of humor. We have so much to stress out over in this world today that without some humor everyone would go insane.

Haha!! "The look"!! I'm all too familiar with that look. Its the "Do you NEED it??" kinda deal.
In fact, my boyfriend always asks me that every time we go shopping. Sometime he sarcastically says it when I pick up things that really are a necessity. "Do you NEED a gallon of milk? Do you need it?" lol.
Its funny because most of the time I have to drag him out of places like the camping section at Wal Mart or Best Buy-usually when he has this glazed over look on his face when he's in the sub woofer section.

Thanks, granny. I have worked outside the home when my children got older, but basically I have been fortunate to stay home with them all of their young lives. I have often told people that I need to get a job again, so I can get some rest. I really admire people that can work a full time job and still carry the load of a home and kids.
I will never be sorry that I gave up a career to raise my kids. My oldest is getting married this month, and she told me that without the support and caring of her parents she would never have made a success of her life. Those are priceless words coming from a child, and nothing could ever take their place. It makes every sacrifice worth it.

RTC,
I envy you. I wish to God that I could afford to stay home and raise my kids. Being a working mom you miss out on many of the fun things and the firsts. I have two sisters that are both stay at home moms and I get jealous every time I think about it. Like right now, that bit of jealousy is creeping up in my gut. I think I will call both of them and tell them how much they suck. LOL!

Lovely_One, I have often been jealous of working moms, because they always had something else to talk about besides kids. I am glad that I got to go on all those field trips and volunteer at their schools. Their dad has worked so hard all these years that he would go days without ever seeing his kids awake. If I hadn't stayed home with them they would have had to be raised by strangers.
I don't take anything for granted, and I count my blessings.
I know what you mean about missing those "firsts". I worked when my oldest was a baby, and when she called me momma, I was shocked. The lady at the daycare said that she had been saying that for months. It broke my heart.
I quit when she 11 mths.old, because she was staying sick at the daycare. The doctor bills and taking time off from work was using up my whole salary. It didn't make any sense to work.
I wish that all moms could stay at home with their kids, but in today's world that isn't too realistic for alot of people.

I really hate agreeing with people like quitgoofingoff, Jonesy and Thomas1776 that come on and bash other people about getting way off topic but they do have a point, there are chat rooms available for personal off topic chats.
Can anyone explain how that stupid Napoleon Dynamite movie, The Color Purple, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins and being jealous over stay at home moms has anything to do with these two zipper heads stealing peoples belongings off the beach?

I'm checking back after working for a living. I can't believe it, you're all still here!
Ladies, a new chat room has been created for your use.
It is entitled "Loser Ladies With Nothing To Do With Their Lives Except Type Useless Drivel On The Computer."
