Public meeting tonight on new roads in N. Charleston
By Warren Wise
The Post and Courier
Tuesday, July 8, 2008
Charleston County will hold a public meeting from 6-8 p.m. today at Stall High School cafeteria at 7749 Pinehurst St. for input on proposed plans for new road construction to ease traffic congestion in North Charleston.
The plans calls for a new road, Future Drive, to connect Palmetto Commerce Parkway with U.S. Highway 78 near Interstate 26. In addition, the extension of Northside Drive would intersect with Future Drive.
The new roads are meant to reduce traffic congestion on Ladson Road, Dorchester Road and Ashley Phosphate Road.
Funding would come from Charleston County's half-cent sales tax that voters approved in 2004 to pay for transportation improvements and green space.
