Skeletal remains found in vehicle
Skeletal remains found in the trunk of a vehicle raised Thursday morning from an undisclosed body of water could be related to a missing persons case, Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon said.
However, Cannon is not releasing much information about the case.
Divers located the vehicle Wednesday afternoon at a boat landing after investigators, along with Mount Pleasant police, learned more about an "individual reported missing some years ago" by a girlfriend, Cannon said.
She told investigators the man could have skipped town or that he could have been the victim of a crime, Cannon said.
Coroner Rae Wooten and Cannon said no one has identified the remains as male or female.
A forensic anthropologist is assisting in the "tedious and time-consuming endeavor" of positively identifying the remains, Wooten said.
Cannon would not identify the missing person or say why authorities think the case might be related to the vehicle, which he would not describe.
It's not unusual for divers to find submerged vehicles, but Cannon said this is the first time he recalls a skeleton in the trunk.

Will be interesting to see the outcome of this! Sounds like an episode of Bones or CSI or something.

I was thinking of that poor woman that worked at Alex's.
They say it was a man, and then they turn around and say that it hasn't been identified as a male or female.
They can tell quite easily from the pelvic bone, but they don't mention the condition of the skeleton.
I just home that the identity of this poor soul brings closure for some family.

With several people missing in this area and the families agonizing over their whereabouts, I don't think this is appropriate time to make jokes until they identify who it is. I doubt Jimmy Hoffa was disposed of down far south. I too was thinking it could be that poor woman that worked at Alex's.
