A community-wide weight loss challenge is being hosted by EA Wellness and Nutrition LLC and Woodruff Chiropractic Clinic.

Community members looking to lose weight or just live a healthier life can take 12 weekly educational classes on fitness, nutrition and how to have a healthy body. Participants will share provided samples of healthful food, a little friendly competition and group encouragement.

The fee of $39 for the entire series will benefit a good cause — Fit For Kids, which helps children who are dealing with obesity. Cash prizes will be awarded to the "biggest loser."

"Everybody's looking for ways to look better and feel better, and we have some good ideas," said Edmund Karesh of EA Wellness. "This program is focused more on proper nutrition than weight loss ... We think that with proper nutrition we'll see the results we're looking for."

While this public service event is geared toward people looking to lose weight, anyone can benefit. The event will "work for people who want to feel less sluggish or even need to gain a few pounds," Karesh said.

Weekly classes start Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Woodruff Chiropractic Clinic in the Quadrangle Shopping Center. To register, call Karesh at 697-1550.
