Teens charged with drinking

Four underage people in possession of alcohol were cited and taken to the Charleston County Detention Center on June 19, according to a Folly Beach police report.

As an officer was patrolling East Arctic Avenue, he noticed four young men who looked underage holding open beer cans. The reporting officer asked them how old they were, and all said they were 21.

When the officer asked them to prove their ages, all four replied that their driver's licenses were in their car. The police asked two of the young men to get their IDs. They returned to the officer saying they couldn't find them. Finally, one of the young men retrieved his ID from a bag. The other three also found their licenses, which showed that they were 18, 19 and 20.

All were charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and giving false statements. The one who retrieved his ID from his bag also was charged with having an altered driver's license.

Concrete block found in vehicle

A 36-year-old man reported that his girlfriend's vehicle was vandalized June 21. Someone smashed through the front passenger window with a cinder block, according to a Folly Beach police report.

An officer was sent to the West Ashley Avenue location and found the cinder block still on the front seat, along with a blood-stained towel draped over the front passenger door and a blood-stained T-shirt on the ground next to the driver's door.

The man's girlfriend was not present when the officer arrived to inspect the vehicle. Nothing was reported stolen. No suspect has been found.

Soda machine vandalized

An officer was dispatched to a location off East Arctic Avenue in response to vandalism June 21, a Folly Beach police report says.

Someone tried to break through the front door panel of a $500 Pepsi vending machine but did not succeed. No suspect was found.

Renter reports beach house theft

A 25-year-old woman reported that someone stole from her while she was sleeping, according to a Folly Beach police report.

The woman told officers that in the early morning hours of June 22, someone came into her rental home on Folly Beach and took her red tote bag, which contained a notebook with skulls on it, a wallet, makeup and four credit cards that have since been used at a gas station.

She told officers that she left the door unlocked that night. A male friend who was with her during that time said he was awakened around 4:30 a.m. to see a strange figure inside the house, but that he didn't think anything of it, nor did he call the police. No suspect has been found.

Man charged with intoxication

Officers responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. June 22 indicating that a man possibly had stolen uniforms from a beach hotel, according to a Folly Beach police report.

Hotel managers said they didn't want to press charges but wanted the suspect escorted off the property. Officers found the 37-year-old man passed out in a lounge chair at the beach. After several tries and "the use of pressure points," officers were able to wake the suspect. When he was asked where he was, he said Mooresville, N.C.

The man was unable to stand and repeatedly fell back into the lounge chair. He was charged with public intoxication.

Man wanted on IOP found at Folly

Folly Beach police got a call June 20 from a local store saying that a vehicle occupied by four men had been sitting in the store's parking lot for about two hours.

According to the report, a 22-year-old man was in the driver's seat when an officer approached the vehicle. The officer saw there was an open container of beer at the driver's feet and also saw an 18-pack of beer between the two men in the rear seats.

The officer also found that the front-seat passenger was wanted on the Isle of Palms on a felony. A hold was placed for IOP, and he was charged with having an open container in a vehicle and possession of beer by a minor.

The driver was charged with transferring beer to a person under 21 and having an open container in a vehicle. One of the rear passengers was charged with possession of beer under 21, and the other with transferring beer to a person under 21.
