Carpentier's Wine and Dine Deli

Carpentier's Wine and Dine Deli has carved a name for itself in Mount Pleasant with its gourmet gift baskets.

But the unassuming Northcutt Plaza establishment also makes a quick lunch in easy, quiet environs.

Start with a salad. Options include chicken salad ($7.25), a generous scoop of one of Carpentier's signature dishes atop greens, cucumbers and tomatoes. The Greek salad ($6.75) comes with fresh greens and sliced beets, feta cheese, pepperoncinis, green peppers, calamata olives and sliced red onions. A trio salad plate ($7.25) with two scoops of chicken salad, tuna salad or pimiento cheese served with pasta salad on leaf lettuce.

As sandwiches go, Carpentier's makes a prime roast beef sandwich ($7.50) with caramelized onions, cheddar cheese and roasted peppers. The turkey club is done on toasted sourdough with tomatoes, lettuce and Dijon mayonnaise.

Chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad and pimiento cheese also can be placed on whole wheat or white bread, sourdough, rye or bagel. And a good old BLT ($6.50) can be had with crispy bacon and fresh tomatoes.

Panini varieties include the Reuben, Italian and Boardwalk with sliced ham, Swiss cheese and bacon with Italian dressing. Each costs $7.50.

We're especially fans of Carpentier's warm and flavorful tomato pie. A slice alone is $3.95; a whole pie, which serves 4-6, is $13.95.

The deli also cooks breakfast all day and makes take-and-bake casseroles.
