USC picked up its second commitment of the day Tuesday when DE Aldrick Fordham (6-4, 237) of Timberland contacted Steve Spurrier and made his pledge. Fordham accepted Spurrier's offer over one from Tennessee.

Earlier in the day, linebacker Matt Coffee (5-11, 210) of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., committed to the Gamecocks

Coffee made his decision just a couple of days after making an unofficial visit to the campus. "I felt it was a good fit and I had fun," Coffee said.

Coffee played just five games as a junior due to mono, yet had 60 tackles and three sacks.

Fordham, who also plays tight end, had 60 tackles and five sacks last season. He is USC's seventh commitment.

Semipro football

The Charleston Hawks semipro football team is looking for players to join the team.

Young men 19 years of age and older who are interested in playing for the Hawks are encouraged to attend practice, which is held nightly from 7 - 9:30 p.m. at the former Charleston Naval Base.

College track

Clemson is looking for one coach to lead its men's and women's track and field and cross country teams.

Clemson recently placed an ad on the NCAA's Web site saying it was accepting applications for the new position. The ad said the individual would manage a staff of five assistants.

Last month, the school's longtime men's coach, Bob Pollock, announced his retirement.

College basketball

A former Cincinnati staffer under Bob Huggins has joined Presbyterian as an assistant men's basketball coach.

The school said it has hired Mark Berger. Berger has worked with several college basketball standouts with the Bearcats.

Berger has been head coach at Western Texas Junior College the past two years.

The Blue Hose will start their second season playing an NCAA Division I schedule since starting the transition from Division II.
