Charleston County schools superintendent makes interim appointments
Associate Superintendent Doug Gepford has been appointed interim chief academic officer for Charleston County schools until a permanent replacement can be hired.
Chief Academic Officer Randy Bynum announced on Monday that he was resigning to move back to his Georgia home.
Mary Reynolds, principal of Goodwin Elementary, will take Gepford's place in the interim. An interim principal for Goodwin Elementary has not been named.
Both interim appointments begin July 14.
Gepford has been an associate superintendent for five years and previously worked as a principal, assistant principal and school psychologist. Reynolds, who also has served as principal of Chicora Elementary, was named the 2007 Principal of the Year for elementary schools by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
