Minton grabs share of Pro-Am lead

ISLE OF PALMS — Jeff Minton, the director golf at Wild Dunes Resort, and Mike Hamilton of Simpsonville shared the opening round lead after posting 65s Tuesday in the Wild Dunes E-Z-Go Pro-Am.

Minton had his 5-under round on the resort's Links Course while Hamilton, a life member of the PGA of America, played the Harbor Course. Contestants play one round at each of the resort's courses. Chris Leatherman of the Leatherman Golf Learning Center in Charlotte and past winner Burke Cromer of Northwoods Golf Club in Columbia are tied for second at 66. Five are tied for fifth at 67, including former Wild Dunes professional Steve Behr of Florence.

Sixty-six professionals and 198 amateurs are competing in the two-day event which features a purse of $15,000. The players will play teams swap courses today. The low professional in the tournament will earn $1,000.

Hamilton and amateurs Brad Bice, Matt Davis and Bob Godfrey lead the team competition with a score of 122, two ahead of teams headed by Cromer and Rocky Catalano of the Daniel Island Club.
