Full event details

A performance by Snake Oil Medicine Show is, by all accounts, truly a show in that fantasies become three-dimensional Technicolor props.

The Asheville-based group consisting of Caroline, George and Andy Pond, along with Billy Seawell, Sean Foley and Phil Cheney have performed hundreds of shows, so it's quite a proclamation to say that no two are ever alike.

'More than a band,' said observer Brita Brundage, 'the group is a caravan, whose shows include live art and sounds that veer from jazz, to bluegrass, to swing, to purely original instrumental.'

They will perform Friday night at The Pour House.

Their improvisational performances have featured various guests including rappers, free-stylers, artists, puppeteers, dancers and jugglers.

Described as playing everything from bluegrass to reggae, Snake Oil is dedicated equally to past traditions as well as a passion for the future. The group has released seven albums and two DVD's worth of material.

According to Brundage, the band has dynamic and rhythmic material 'that (is) guaranteed to splash all over the musical spectrum.'

The band's lyrical content is humorous yet serious, with a sincere belief in unity, awareness and a spirituality they believe can change the world for better.

'Free expression can be embraced,' said Brundage. He said the band's eclectic selections break out of social structures.
