State DNR receives large donation

Saturday, February 23, 2008

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources has received the largest ever donation from the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund, a private nonprofit that partners with the state agency to promote programs that conserve wildlife, marine and other natural resources.

The fund raised $179,425 from efforts including an annual banquet, held last summer.

The check brought the total of donations over the years by the fund to $2,260,905, according to a DNR news release.

The money will go to supplement department spending for special projects, including scholarships and other educational efforts.

"The Harry Hampton Fund and DNR have a long history of partnership in preserving, enhancing and promoting the natural resources of South Carolina," Hampton board Chairman Sam Hiott said in the news release. "After all, our natural resources belong not just to us, but to future generations."
