Join the obesity battle
Thursday, February 14, 2008
In what is both proactive and symbolic of local efforts to fight obesity, the Lean Team invites anyone to join them at 9 a.m. Saturdays on the Charleston side of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge to run or walk the bridge.
The Lean Team is a collaborative effort of the Medical University of South Carolina and the Charleston County School District. It will work on ways to get the community to embrace being active and eating well. A goal of the walk is to have participants log 6,000 miles as a group by springtime.
As an incentive for local schoolchildren, the Lean Team secured 60 free entries to the Cooper River Bridge Run and Walk on April 5. musc.edu/leanteam or Mary Joan Oexmann at oexmann@musc.edu or 577-4766.
