Man accused of robbing bank twice

North Charleston police have arrested a man on charges that he twice held up the same Wachovia bank by passing the teller a handwritten note.

Michael Molina Lopez, 44, of Charleston, is charged with two counts of entering a bank with the intent to steal. Lopez has a history of financial crimes, including forgery and check fraud, police Public Information Officer Spencer Pryor said.

The bank on Rivers Avenue at Remount Road was robbed Monday and Jan. 7. Both times, the man gave a teller a note advising them to cooperate and no one would be hurt, police said. No weapons were shown.

Pryor said police got a tip Wednesday after a news broadcast of bank surveillance video. He said Lopez confessed to both robberies, and his fingerprints matched those found on the notes, arrest affidavits said. The affidavits said $4,149.18 was stolen in January and $1,021.90 was taken Monday.
