Blackbaud employees get into spirit of giving

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

Despite economic downturns, the employees of Blackbaud let their holiday spirit shine with a $28,542 donation to the Good Cheer Fund. The amount represents contributions from individual employees and a company match that is the largest gift received in 2008.

This year marks the 17th anniversary of Blackbaud's generosity to the Good Cheer Fund. Since 1992, the company and its employees have donated $423,783 to provide assistance to those in need in our community throughout the holiday season.

Blackbaud supplies software and support services for nonprofit organizations. According to Marc E. Chardon, Blackbaud's president and CEO, "In these uncertain times, we're very aware of the strain on our social services network, and for some, the basic human needs of food, shelter and clothing are unmet. We hope this donation helps the six recipient organizations fulfill their missions by providing services to those in our community who need it the most."

In addition to the generous Blackbaud contribution, this year the Daniel Island Co. gave a $10,000 donation through its Employee Advised Fund, an employee charitable contribution program funded through payroll deductions. The Daniel Island Co. matches employee contributions dollar for dollar and an employee advisory committee guides decisions on contributions throughout the year.

The Good Cheer Fund was established in 1927 to help Lowcountry people in need during the Christmas season. The Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, Association for the Blind, Carolina Youth Development Center, Catholic Charities and Lowcountry Food Bank receive every cent of each donation. There are no administrative costs involved.

It's not too late to make a donation to the Good Cheer Fund. On Dec. 31, the final total for the 2008 Good Cheer Fund will be published, as well as all donations that have been received since Monday.

Send your tax-deductible contribution today to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800.
