RECALLS
Product recalls announced last week. Details are available in most cases at www.cpsc.gov and other Web sites or telephone numbers listed.
High chairs
About 95,000 Evenflo Majestic High Chairs made in China are being recalled because plastic caps and metal screws on both sides of the chairs can fall off, causing the back of the seat to collapse. The chairs were sold at juvenile product stores and mass merchants nationwide, including Toys R Us, Babies "R" Us and Burlington Coat Factory.
Evenflo said it had received more than 1,000 reports of plastic caps and screws falling off of the high chairs and 140 reports of the seatbacks reclining or detaching. The malfunctioning seats resulted in 47 reports of bumps and bruises, 2 reports of broken bones and at least 45 reports of other injuries.
Children could also choke on the detached parts, the company and agency said. In at least seven cases, the company said caps and screws were found in children's hands or mouths, although no instances of choking were reported.
The chairs, which were priced at $80 to $100, were sold between January 2006 and May 2007.
The chairs have the following model numbers, located on a white label on the seatback: 3001395A, 3001583, 3001633A, 3001669, 3001700A, 3001713, 3001713A, 3001730A, 3001732, 3001732A, 3001733, 3001742, 3001742A, and 3001756.
"Evenflo" is printed on the label and on the push button on the front of the tray.
Customers were advised to stop using the chairs and contact Evenflo for a free repair kit. Details: by phone at 800-233-5921, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.; by Web at www.majestichighchair.com.
