The Charleston Dog Training Club is organizing a drive to collect donations of dog and cat food to be distributed to elderly and/or disabled pet owners who receive Meals On Wheels for their personal needs.

Many of these homebound recipients cannot afford to properly feed and care for their pets, although frequently the animal has been a family member for many years and may be their only source of companionship.

All pet food collected is divided into small portions and distributed via the existing Meals On Wheels network. Any donation of canned or dry pet food is welcome.

Pet gift certificates

Adding a pet to the family is a serious, long-term commitment. It's a decision that needs input from everyone who would be involved in caring for the animal.

Many questions that need to be considered: What type of animal would have a personality most compatible with a person or family? Who would be the primary caregiver? How much will it cost to feed and provide veterinary care? Who would look after the animal during trips? Could someone be allergic to the pet? It is extremely important that the primary pet caregiver is involved in the adoption process.

Instead of buying a puppy or kitten as a gift, consider giving a Pet Helpers "gift certificate instead. This not only promotes responsible adoption, but also gives a loved one a chance to make his own personal connection with the animal.

Pet Helpers adoption fees include an animal being spayed or neutered, up-to-date with vaccinations and micro chipped.
