Local actor Brian Zane agreed to give us his take on a few tunes for this week's "Here Listen to This."

Zane has a role in Charleston Stage's production of "A Christmas Carol" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sottile Theatre, 44 George St., downtown.

MIA ft. Jay-Z, 'Boyz'

"This song reminds me of being in a club that is too crowded and sweaty and loud and you can't find any of your friends. Even if the song had good lyrics, I wouldn't notice them because of how they are delivered."

10cc, 'I'm Not in Love'

"My first impression of this song: a lesser version of Billy Joel's romantic, jazzy 'Just the Way You Are.' Both songs are 'easy listening' and could easily be played in an elevator, not necessarily in a bad way. But, for some reason, this song doesn't keep my attention as consistently as Billy Joel's does."

Radiohead, 'House of Cards'

"Radiohead is one of my favorite bands and I'd be hard-pressed to find a song of theirs that I don't like. This is one of my favorite songs from 'In Rainbows' and it's a song that makes you want to do some soul-searching, preferably in the rain."

West Side Story, 'Jet Song'

"In my opinion, this is the greatest musical of all time. I just played Riff (the leader of the Jets) in Charleston Stage's production of 'West Side Story' and it was a dream come true. Riff sings this song to rile up his troops."

Montgomery Gentry, 'Roll With Me'

"I just don't like country and I don't think I ever will. It has a pretty good melody and a good beat and I'm sure it's probably good for a country song. That being said, I would never listen to this song on my own free will."

Billy Joel, 'Honesty'

"Another good soul-searching song. In Billy Joel's unique style, the song is both ruefully cynical and hopefully romantic. It's almost like a plea for hopeless romantics in a sea of superficiality. That's a sentiment worth fighting for in a sometimes phony world."
