The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department offers the following activities. Visit www.mtpleasantrec.com. To register, call the R.L. Jones Center/Wando K-Pod at 884-2528, the complex at Park West at 856-2196, the G.M. Darby Building at 849-2061 or the Town Hall recreation office at 856-2174.

Special events

13TH ANNUAL TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT CHRISTMAS LIGHT PARADE: Dec. 14. Coleman Boulevard. The parade will follow a fireworks diplay. There will be more than 100 lighted floats, beginning at Shem Creek and ending at Sea Island Shopping Center. Fireworks begin about 5:45 p.m. with parade at 6 p.m.

MOUNT PLEASANT CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR: G.M. Darby Building. A performance of dance, music and theater, presented by Sprinkles Entertainment. Reserve a space at any MPRD facility. 7 p.m. Dec. 19, 7 p.m. Dec. 20, 2 p.m. Dec. 21. Tickets: $18/adults, $15/seniors (age 60+), $10 ages 8 and under.

THE MAGIC PRESENT PUPPET SHOW: By Becky's Box of Puppets. G.M. Darby Building. In this puppet show for children, Miss Becky creates a winter wonderland. Call 849-2061 for reservations. Dec. 12. 10 a.m. show (sold out) and 11:30 a.m. show (RSVP in advance to 849-2061. Spaces limited). Fee: $3/child. Accompanying adults are free.

VISIT WITH SANTA: 12:30-2 p.m. Dec. 11 at G.M. Darby Building. Christmas music, games, crafts and a visit with Santa. A snack and photo are provided. For ages 6 and under. Free.

Youth programs

PIANO: Weekly 30-minute private lessons can be arranged with instructors. Ages as young as 7 can start anytime. Darby Building/Jones Center. $85 resident/$99 nonresident for four weekly 30-minute lessons. If there are five weeks in the month, an additional $21.25 is required. Call 849-2061 for a list of instructors.

DRUMS AND PERCUSSION: Learn to play drum set, snare and hand percussion such as congas and bongos. Learn to read music and play the drums to favorite songs. Beginners to advanced. Darby Building. $85 resident/$99 nonresident for four weekly 30-minute lessons.

GYMNASTICS: A semester of tumbling, parallel bars, balance beam and mini trampoline under expert direction. Days and times depend on experience level. Call 884-2528. Jones Center. Tuesdays or Thursdays, through May 14. $480/resident, $494/nonresident/year.

WINTER WONDERLAND: 4-5:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at Park West. Read stories and make creative crafts to set the mood for a festive holiday. For ages 4-8. $18/resident, $25/nonresident.

HOLIDAY DROP AND SHOP: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 20 at R.L. Jones Center. Parents can drop off children to make a holiday craft while finishing shopping. Bring a bag lunch. For ages 5-12. $20/resident, $27/nonresident.

HOLIDAY CHESS-A-THON: 2-4 p.m. Dec. 22 at G.M. Darby Building. Chess boards and snack will be provided. Top winners will go on for tournament play. Bring your own chess board if you like. $10/resident, $17/nonresident.

HOLIDAY BALLET CAMP: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Dec. 22 and 23 at G.M. Darby Building. Come dressed in your ballet attire. Group will dance to music from "The Nutcracker." For ages 3-5. $30/resident, $37/nonresident.

FABRIC ORNAMENTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS: 4-6 p.m. Dec. 17 at G.M. Darby Building and 4-6 p.m. Dec. 18 at Park West. Design and make your own creation. For ages 5-13. $20/residents, $27/nonresident/class.
