Roper St. Francis Healthcare plans to break ground next year on a three-story cancer-treatment center at the Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital campus in West Ashley.

The 76,000-square-foot Outpatient Cancer Center on Henry Tecklenburg Drive will provide medical services including chemotherapy infusion and radiation therapy. It will also provide a patient resource library and a retail shop with products tailored to cancer patients.

With architectural design nearly complete, Roper has already selected a general contractor, according to hospital officials. Next week, the company will take the project before a city board that regulates the design of new commercial buildings.

Work is set to begin next year, provided that the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control approves a certificate of need for the medical center. Completion is scheduled for the summer of 2010.
