Marine Capt. Warren A. Frank, who was killed in Iraq last week, likely will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Frank, 26, who grew up in the Cincinnati area, died Nov. 25. He was a member of the Class of 2004.

His team was in the Ninewa province when it came under small-arms fire from an attacker dressed in an Iraqi soldier's uniform, according to media reports. It was unclear whether the attacker was wearing the uniform as a possible disguise.

A U.S. Army soldier also was killed and several other Americans were injured, the reports said.

At The Citadel, Frank majored in political science and was a member of Bravo Company. He was the first battalion supply sergeant as a junior and Charlie Company commander as a senior.

School officials said he was remembered for his leadership skills.

"He was a very mature cadet," said Maj. Greg Speaker, a tactical officer on campus who knew Frank. "He never came to me with a problem that he did not have a possible solution to. He was immensely respected by his classmates. This is a real loss."

Attempts to reach Frank's family Monday were unsuccessful. He is survived by his wife, Allison, and two daughters in Okinawa, Japan, where he was part of the 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Frank's father, Warren R. Frank, issued a statement in which he praised his son's mission in life.

"Our son wanted nothing more than to make a difference in our world," he said. "He was not a movie version soldier but a man who looked forward to loving his children."

The statement said Capt. Frank served more than one tour in Iraq.

"Our deep sorrow is not in the life we had with him, but in the loss of life we always thought we would share," the message said. "He was our son, our brother, devoted husband and an enthusiastic father. He is our reminder that all generations have those who comprise 'The Greatest Generation.' "

The statement also said that Frank looked forward to retiring from the service and planned to teach high school history and coach track.

Funeral arrangements were yet to be announced but his family said Frank likely will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Capt. Frank's honor was asked to consider several of the organizations he supported, including Wounded Warriors, Boots to Books and Toys for Tots.

Thank You, Capt. Frank, for protecting our freedoms and saving the lives of countless Americans. Lives that would have been lost had you not served us so well. When our freedoms and liberties are threatened, great young men and women like yourself step up and make sure that we can continue to live as we are accustomed in the United States. Not all understand your sacrifice and the need for the protection. Some even make unintelligent comments about the job you do and the mission you perform. Rest assured, even though the unintelligent may not understand that you gave your life so that they could continue to make ignorant comments freely, America appreciates the sacrifice you, your family and your friends have made.

JimIslander, I am sorry that you feel this way: Not knowing your age, I make the following comments:

December 7, 1941 The United States of America was attacked by Japan without cause; more than 3,500 US service men were killed during this attack: What would have happened if the United States had not fought back:

During the same War our Allies in Europe were being attacked by the German's lead by a mad man, Adolph Hitler: What would have happened if the United States had not helped support the Allies:

Korean War The United Nations along with the United States intervened into this conflict after North Korea invaded South Korea: What would have happened if the United States had not helped support the South Korean's...

The Cuban Missile Crisis In 1961 a group of Cuban exiles who were opposed to Castro invaded Cuba to over throw him: The Cuban army quickly terminated this invasion: In fear that Cuba was to be invaded by the United States, Castro declared that Cuba was a Socialist Republic and a satellite state of the Soviet Union: What would have happened if the United States had not intervened in this matter:

Vietnam War We helped out the South Vietnamese, but the out cry from the citizens of the United States caused us to retreat from the War: What would have happened if the United States had stayed the course:

September 11, 2001 The United States was attacked by yet another mad man, Osama Bin Laden who has his own hatred for our Nation: What would have happened if the United States had not gone in and removed Saddan Hussein from power:

These United States would not be as we are right now: We have been given the right as individuals to select who leads us and how we are governed:

With out these freedoms what kind of place would this be:

I thank every service person that has served our nation, in peace time and times of war: I especially thank the families of those service men and women that have given there all for the FREEDOM that we have:

GOD BLESS THIS NATION, NOW AND FOR EVER MORE:

His son died offering humanitarian aid to victims of partisan hatred, the very thing you are so full of.

What sacrifices have you made for your fellow man, other than showing your stupidity on this post. You aren't fit to pick up Frank's nail clippings.

Still appropriate:

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

To all of those that criticize this man, this friend, this war, this country. First off, the duty of a soldier is to serve and protect their country. Public opinion of a war has no bearing whatsoever. To join the military means to join something and to have a belief in something that is bigger than yourselves. US soldiers not only protect you, but they protect the rest of the world. Go tell all of your Nazi Hussein loving comments to the families of the northern Kurds in Iraq that were wiped out by Hussein with Chemical and Biological Weapons. While Hussein might not have been considered a direct threat to the US itself, he was however a direct threat to the national security of the world. I did not want to turn this into a Political comment but sometimes it just needs to be said. Our military boys and girls are trained to do a terrible and unthinkable thing, however, their peace of mind comes from their unfiltered belief in the unified chain of command. The word soldier actually means to follow orders and when you devote yourself to the service of others, whether public opinion agrees or not, you remove yourself from the norm and become something that is worth pride and self worth. This man that I call my friend gave his life for the security of others. "If you dont stand behind them, feel free to stand in front of them"

I am willing to bet you wouldn't talk that way in front of your father or grandfather? My grandfather was a WWII vet and I'd really hate it for you if ever said anything like that in front of him.

Jim Islander, just a short comment or two to you. I am fully aware as well as anyone else on here is aware that you are not a Bush supporter, and that is fine. I am sure that there probably were lies and all those things that you have mentioned but how do you know that for sure. Have you seen security briefings from your office in the Pentagon? The way you seem to intelligently portray yourself on the subject matter would make one believe that you were on the inside. You only know of lies and stuff that the media has told you about. You act as if you have choices at all. Even as much as the clothes you were wearing...there are people right now designing something specifically for you. They will research people like you, create something, and then put it on commercials on shows that they know you want, and then they have succeeded because you have bought it. What I am saying is that your blind impotence is fueled only by a left wing media and other media outlets. As far as Bush goes, hate the man or whatever, but he is The President of the United States. The Presidency is more than any one person and all respect should be given to the President, whether you agree with the person that it happens to be or not. And Yes, I have learned that you believe in the chain of command and the orders of your superiors. If you have never been in the military or in a military environment I would be able to understand how you would not be able to understand this concept. Whether you believe it or not, the soldiers in those uniforms believe that what they are doing with their lives has meaning. Warranted or not, wrong or right, moral or immoral, like I said public opinion about a war has nothing to do with the issue. The issue is that not supporting the military all the time dishonors not only those that have died in this war, but those that have died in previous wars. What would have happened if people like you had been prominent when Farmers and mothers sent their sons off to fight against the British, knowing they were sending them to their death, to fight against a King that they were still loyal too? There are people out there that would kill you and your family for the mear fact that you are American and breathe however small percentage of the atmosphere that you share. I disagree with your comments and do not appreciate you calling me names as you know nothing about me other than the fact that I am not as old as you and that our views about certain things are of a deep contrast in nature. However, I respect your comments, as misguided as I think they are, but seriously, as intelligent as you may be, and as strong of a conviction as you might think you have in your own beliefs, if you portray yourself in public they way that you have on here today, I would just like to say that I am sorry and hope that one day this country is exactly how you and the like-minded would like for it to be.

Well said, Chilldiesel83. I agree with your comments and admire the patience you have shown toward JI. I do not know why it is so hard for some people to understand the consequences of his viewpoint. How can they be so short-sighted, not seeing past the ends of their noses? The Islamic radicals and their like will just as soon kill any American as look at him. In fact, they feel the only good American is a dead one! It is certainly better to engage them "over there" than to wait for them to attack us here on our soil. How can that be so hard to understand, JI? Can you not see that? They cannot be negotiated with, because they do not think logically. Hence, "ethnic cleansing", and such.
Thank you, Captain Frank, for you unselfish service.

I find it hard to believe you were ever in the military. You sound like an ignorant idiot on this blog. If you were in the military than you sound even more stupid. I have been to Iraq. I was in the military. I understand were these people are coming form. I don't see how you can say you support the military. If you are in the military let me hazard a guess that you are in the navy or coastguard. The closest you have gotten to Iraq is probably a day at the beach. While it might not have been the best idea to go into Iraq we are there now. If we were to pull out there could be bad concequences. I'm sure you don't really care though. You will be safe behind you're computer making you're ignorant brainwashed comments. Yeah I said brainwashed b/c you spout off the typical anti bush anti Iraq retoric. Iraq is a great place to kill muslim radical turds. Everyone always wines about what the USA is doing.Look at what Saddam and his 2 psychopath sons did to there own people. He had it coming. If you don't like the USA get out. Move to France or Iran. Go try and live in Iran, and speek out about the government. Then see what happens to you. You are a turd.

My heart goes out to this young hero's family. He passed away in the line of duty doing what was right and just, helping those who needed to be helped. There is nothing bad you can say about how this man died, or how he lived. He is a hero and his life should be celebrated as such.

My heart also goes out to those of his extended Citadel family as it hard to bear the loss of any of our few who wear the ring. I cannot imagine what it is like to serve our country and protect our freedom so far from home. So much you must sacrifice, the love of those so close to you, but yet so far away. Again, my heart goes out to your family.

And for those select few who wish to make this blog about politics, go somewhere else. This is not the place. This is a place for those who wish to say their final goodbyes and spred out their love and respect the this young man's family. Nothing else should be written here.
