Brothers search for a happy holiday after being abused

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Seven-year-old Brian and his brother recently went to a Good Cheer Fund agency because of physical and sexual abuse by a parent.

Brian's face was badly bruised when he arrived at the shelter. Although he's now safe from violence, Brian is still fearful of being hit. He doesn't understand that children are not always physically abused after an argument. He is slowly learning that he deserves to be treated with love and compassion.

Your contribution to the Good Cheer Fund will enable a Good Cheer agency to help Brian feel he has support during the holiday season.

Every year since 1927, needy people have been given reason to be cheerful at Christmas because of the generous contributions made to the Good Cheer Fund.

Six charitable organizations share the contributions. The Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, Association for the Blind, Catholic Charities, Carolina Youth Development Center and Lowcountry Food Bank receive every cent of each donation. There are no administrative costs involved and funds are not distributed to any individual or organization outside the Good Cheer Fund agencies.

Send your tax-deductible contribution today to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800.

Any amount you send could help make Christmas a little brighter for someone like Brian.
