Teen dies from injuries in wreck
MONCKS CORNER — An Andrews teen died Sunday morning after he was involved in a single-car wreck north of Moncks Corner.
Robert Johnson, 16, died at 9 a.m. at a local hospital Sunday from head injuries he sustained in a wreck that occurred at 2 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 17A, according to Berkeley County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Salisbury.
Authorities say Johnson was a passenger in a 2000 Mazda van that ran off the road about five miles south of Jamestown.
S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said the driver of the van, 16-year-old Clarence Penny, was ejected from the vehicle but survived with what authorities believe were non-life threatening injuries.
Neither Penny nor Johnson were wearing seatbelts.
The wreck is under investigation.

My opinion-two 16 year olds at 2 a.m.? That's why my 18 year old isn't driving yet...I don't see him as responsible enough, and quite frankly, he's terrified of the traffic..when the time is right, he'll drive, but not now. Parents? Where the heck are you? Sleeping, no doubt, but when you get the 3 a.m. knock on the door that your child is dead, and took a friend with him, that surely would be a wake-up call. Sympathy, yes, I have that, but disdain, yes, I have that too.

I woudl like to know if the parents knew they were out this late or if it was a case of sneaking out for a little joy riding.
I think the parents need to be checked out in cases like this.
I wonder who the van belonged to?
