Racing elegance

Saturday, August 30, 2008

Fast cars have proven popular enough in the Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival Oct. 30-Nov. 2 for them to have their own venue: the Quest for Speed and Style.

This year, the show will have a host of speed-related events as part of the Quest and elsewhere. It will honor the 60th anniversary of Porsche, tracing the sports car's evolution from early days to contemporary appeal.

There will be events tied to the centennial of the great Savannah Races, a 1908 race considered the first grand prix in America.

Not all the Quest's exhibits boast speed, though. A new one this year is of pre-World War II, heavy-duty trucks.
