Man reports being beaten, robbed

Saturday, August 30, 2008

A man reported being hit on the head with a gun and robbed while he was opening the trunk of his car in downtown Charleston early Friday, police said.

The 24-year-old was at Hassell and Washington streets around 12:35 a.m. when two men with bandannas on their faces demanded his cell phone, wallet and keys, according to a police report.

He refused, and one of them hit him on the head with the butt of a pistol, the report said.

When police arrived, he was bleeding heavily from the back of the head, the report said.

EMS workers treated him at the scene.

Officers arrested two men after pulling over a car on East Bay and Hassell streets soon afterward. A report said that officers found a semi- automatic pistol and bandannas in the glove box.

Terrell Montgomery, 30, and Antawan Labarron Lloyd, 28, were charged with armed robbery. Their bonds were set at $100,000 each and they remained in the Charleston County jail.

Montgomery also was charged with second-offense possession of marijuana. Bond was set at $10,000 on that charge.

More welfare scum from welfare moms. The cycle will never stop. Let the victim hit them on the head with the gun as part of their punishment.

Believe it or not........the perps have lengthy arrest and conviction records dating back more than 12 years for drugs, assault, unlawful possession of firearms, DUS, etc. (and that's just what I got off the Charleston County Clerk site). They've been repeatedly arrested, bonded out, tried, given probation, etc. Montgomery was out on bail for a June 2008 arrest.

Thanks to the police for tracking the scum down. Too bad that the judicial system failed us yet again.

Another good example why parole and probation should be abolished for violent offenders.

WE NEED TO BEEF UP THE POLICE IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON. THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A TOURIST DESTINATION. THESE THUGS SHOULD BE BEAT IN THE HEAD BY THEIR VICTIMS. I'M SO SICK OF THESE LAZY JERKS NOT GOING OUT AND GETTING A JOB LIKE THE REST OF US. THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THE EASY WAY OUT.
I WAS RECENTLY PULLED OVER FOR MAKING A ILLEGAL TURN, AND I HAD 2 DIFFERENT PATROL CARS PULL UP. ONLY 1 WAS NEEDED, THE OTHER CAN PATROL DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON.

JlWDALFAN, I was pulled over for a so-called blown fuse over my license plate(big deal) & i had three officers behind me.I'm pretty sure one could have been downtown & the other at "Krispy Kreme" !

I was pulled over last year because the month sticker on my license plate had deteriorated and was illegible. Was I embarrassed? Sure. The cop was doing his job, though, and I didn't subscribe to the asinine "why-aren't-you-out-there-arresting-the-real-criminals" thinking.

The next time you get pulled for an illegal turn or other "minor" traffic offense, remember that Ted Bundy was caught as the result of a traffic offense. How do you know there isn't some felon out there driving a car similar to yours? Thank a cop for doing the job, even if you don't agree with the law he/she is enforcing.

No one deserves to be robbed but the victim here was very stupid to resist. He could have been killed.

And because they breed like rabbits the problem will just keep getting worse.

So voyager, just bend over and take it? No thanks.

Ok, jsteph I am sure throwing a punch will work really well with someone who has a gun. Ever heard of common sense?

wonderdog, no one is saying the cops aren't doing their jobs. i just don't see why you have to have more than 1 patrol car pull you over at wrong time. I was taking my spoiled dog for a ride, and i didn't make a illegal turn as the cop said, it was his excuse to pull me over. However when they pulled behind me, it looked like a swat training espisode. they blocked me in, and pulled me out of my car and handcuffed me (for my own protection i was told) and then ask what i am doing in a certain area. (i'm white by the way) no race issue here. they really do need to be where there is crime, not in a quite neighborhood.

Your story just makes me think that they may have thought you were someone else who they were specifically looking for. I think we need the cops to be on the lookout for problems everywhere, not just in the high crime areas. At times it is easy to think that as long as the criminals stay in certain areas, the rest of us will be ok; however, that is not often the case. Police presence in quiet areas can be a deterrent to criminals.

Many years ago, my Buick was stopped by the police on the Wappoo Bridge; we were told to get out of the vehicle, the passenger compartment was searched, and then the trunk was opened. We asked the officers what was going on, and one replied that a police officer had been shot when he attempted to stop an armed robbery at a grocery store. They never caught the scum; they ran up the street and blended in at the James Island high school football game. We didn't fit the description of the murderers, but our car was searched. We were ok with that.

We the public don't often know about current investigations, BOLO's, etc., and I think there is usually a pretty good reason for that.
