5 of 11 stolen dogs back with owners
Saturday, August 30, 2008
SUMMERVILLE — Five of 11 beagles stolen from a hunting club in Hanahan were returned to their owners after one of the dogs was seen running loose on Candle Drive this week, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said.
A man who spotted the dog Monday was able to identify it by a tattoo in its ear, an incident report stated.
A deputy followed up on a report that four more of the dogs were at a nearby house. A man at the house told police he bought them during the past week for $500 from a man at the corner of U.S. Highway 78 and Royle Road.
The deputy returned the dogs at the house to their owners, the report says.
The dogs were reported stolen from a hunting club off Williams Lane on the afternoon of Aug. 21.

Another thing here -
The man that bought all of these hunting dogs didn't see the tattoos? Is he stupid enough to not know that these dogs would go for over $500 EACH?!
I smell a rat and a lie. I hope the police follow up with this guy. He knows more than he's saying.

I am glad the police got a good tip. The Police ought to follow up on the man who said he bought the dogs. His story does not add up. I bet he was in on the theft himself. How often does someone show up to sell you a group of four dogs. The hunt club should invest in a security system with lighting and cameras if they are going to leave dogs unattended.
