BEHIND BARS

You never truly realize how much you love Charleston until you're not in town for almost an entire month. As I write this column, a new season is dawning for colleges throughout the tri-county area. I thought it only appropriate that we list some of the most bargain friendly drinking establishments in town. These places will save money for students and for those of us who are trying to save a few dollars here and there.

Recovery Room

The Recovery Room, 685 King St., has one of the most cost effective happy hours in town featuring $1 off all well drinks and beer, plus $1 PBRs and half-priced wings 4-8 p.m.

AC's downtown

AC's downtown, 467 King St., always has a great $2 "Beer of the Month." You can also enjoy 75 cents off all beer and $3 house drinks 4-8 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Big John's

Big John's, 251 East Bay St., is known on Sundays for great guest bartenders, and some of the best deals on Jagermeister in town. It's only $3 per shot.

Trio's summer end

As the summer rolls to an end, Trio Club, 139 Calhoun St., is throwing a black party Sunday night. Everyone is encouraged to wear black clothing, and for the ladies, the little black dresses are more than appropriate. Live entertainment will be provided by Soul Fish. Doors open at 9 p.m. For more details, give the club a call at 965-5333.

Little Black Dress

Light, 213 East Bay St., will focus tonight on the little black dress. Festivities include a balloon drop at midnight with cash and prizes, plus $2 Heineken all night. For all the details, call 722-1311.

Healthy cocktails

After about 3 weeks in Hilton Head, I came back and jumped on the scale.

I don't know if it was the stress of producing a show or just the fact that we ate out a lot. However, I gained about five pounds. Marietta, my trainer who still doesn't know this yet, will be kicking my behind back into shape.

I am so glad to be back in town so that I can get into a routine again. I tried a cocktail down on the island that was really incredible. It was made with raspberry puree and vodka and a splash of soda. All they did was throw a bunch of fresh raspberries in a blender and pulled the vodka out of the freezer and mixed the two with a splash of soda water.

Give it a try and let me know how you enjoyed it.
