Matthews is right up any sports fan's Alley
FROM THE BARSTOOL
Matthews Sports Grill in Mount Pleasant is what one might expect from a sports bar, with multiple large screen TVs, pool tables, video games and both high standing tables and large booths throughout the space. But Matthews is also attached to another facility.
Twin River Lanes is the hot spot for bowling in Mount Pleasant. On any given night, and especially weekends, bowling aficionados east of the Cooper man the alleys, to take part in what has to be one the most leisurely and social of sports. Then, win or lose, it's time to head next door to Matthew's to continue the socializing. The bowling alley and the bar share a large door, through which one can pass back and forth with ease.
On the Saturday night that I visited, most of the crowd was huddled around the actual bar and I realized that despite the bowling alley, Matthews is a sports bar in its own right.
A significant portion of the patrons, if not a majority, were obviously there for the same reasons one might go to any bar — good friends, good food and cold beer. Matthew's crowd veered young that night (of course I was there at 11 p.m., long after the typical happy hour crowd — which is also typically older — might have called it quits), but the age range of 25-40 seemed to cover the customer gamut.
Sports fans would have no complaints about Matthews, which not only is an ideal place to watch the big game, but is extremely clean. I've been to few sports bars I'd call "dirty," but "clean" is not usually the first descriptive that comes to mind when visiting any of them.
Matthews is the exception to the rule, as it is very clean.
For bowling fans, sports fans, or just plain, old bar fans, Matthews Sports Grill in Mount Pleasant is right up your alley.
