Tigers hoops schedule announced

CLEMSON — Clemson helps christen a new arena and faces a pair of Southeastern Conference opponents as it attempts to earn a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers, who announced their schedule on Tuesday, will travel to Charlotte, Illinois and South Carolina, as well as play in an eight-team tournament to open the College of Charleston's new arena.

In addition to South Carolina, Clemson has a home game with SEC member Alabama.

The Tigers open their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule on Dec. 21 at Miami.

College soccer

Charleston Southern sophomore Michelle Dennis has been named the Big South women's soccer player of the week.

Dennis opened the season with two goals in CSU's 3-2 overtime victory over Francis Marion, including the game-winner at the 5:27 mark of the extra session.

College track and field

Travis Padgett has gone from Clemson to the Olympics to the pros.

The school said Tuesday the Tigers' NCAA record-setting sprinter has decided to give up his final year of eligibility to turn pro. He recently signed with Adidas and is expected to run as a professional in Europe this week.

Padgett set an NCAA record of 9.89 seconds in the 100-meter quarterfinals at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He finished fourth at the trials, but was part of the U.S. 4x100 meter relay team.
