HARLEYVILLE — A series of wrecks thought to involve multiple trucks snarled a stretch of Interstate 26 east in Dorchester County today, the Highway Patrol said. Troopers were rerouting Charleston-bound traffic off the freeway at mile marker 177 onto S.C. Highway 453, Cpl. Paul Brouthers said. The detour will take traffic onto U.S. Highway 178 and S.C. Highway 27 to bring it back to the freeway at mile marker 187. The first wreck involved a van carrying two state Department of Corrections employees that went into the median near mile marker 179 and hit a tree shortly before noon, Brouthers said. The corrections employees were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The other wreck occurred as troopers were investigating the first one. Check Charleston.net for more details later today.
