Pough not very pleased with session
South Carolina State began alternating two-a-day workouts in the morning with its first live practice in full gear, followed by an evening session in shorts and shoulder pads.
The first live session of the preseason was not very impressive, according to Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough.
"I was not pleased at how we looked in first real, live practice in full gear," Pough said. "We didn't get quite the reaction from the players we were looking for. It was hot and running around with full pads on makes a difference but I expected a little better performance from the players.
"At one point," he continued, "we called for a real, knockdown dragout between the offense and defense to kind of get things going and also to find out who wanted to play and who was trying to get better. That was a lot of fun and I expect our guys to improve every practice. I was sure we'd see a lot better performance in our evening workout."
After media day activities, the Bulldogs are set for their first scrimmage at 7 this evening.
