A Special Olympics athlete from Charleston is featured in a Coca-Cola TV ad scheduled to air tonight during the Summer Games' opening ceremonies from Beijing.

Paul Nimmich, an 18-year-old tennis player from James Island, is one of several Special Olympics athletes chosen to appear in the Coke commercial.

The video image is from the Special Olympics 2006 U.S. National Games in Ames, Iowa, where Nimmich earned a silver medal.

Nimmich, a rising junior at James Island Charter High School, was selected because the shot captured a moment of triumph, said Sue Maner, vice president of programs and communications for Special Olympics South Carolina. "It was that look of achievement," she said.

In the ad, Nimmich is wearing a blue shirt. He lifts his arms above his head after a medal is placed around his neck.
