Hattie Miller, who turned 100 on July 15, accepts a check Thursday for $54.74 from State Treasurer Converse Chellis.

SPARTANBURG — State Treasurer Converse Chellis has personally delivered a check to a woman with unclaimed property.

Chellis said he took the check for $54.74 to 100-year-old Hattie Miller on Thursday because Miller might be the oldest person to ever receive unclaimed property in the country.

Miller said a niece found out that she was owed the money after looking at South Carolina's unclaimed property Web site.

Chellis gave Miller her check at the Happy Home Adult Day Care Center in Spartanburg.

Finally, a good story about the government! However, skeptic that I am, how many of her 100 years was this money due her? But we do thank you SC for making things right :)

Hang in there, granny, you know women, particularly wives, are almost always on the bottom of the totem pole.

Wow, a whole $54.....
I'm jealous.

Haha! My thoughts exactly! I wonder if he's going to take his gas bill out of her $54.74? LOL!
