Staff report
Tuesday, August 5, 2008
Medical University of South Carolina raised more than $67.4 million in gifts, payments and pledges during fiscal 2007-08, a record, officials announced Monday.
The largest portion came from gifts and matching funds from foundations and nonprofits. More than a third, nearly $24.4 million, came from individual benefactors, including patients, alumni and other supporters. Businesses contributed $7.7 million, more than 10 percent.
The university is conducting a $300 million capital campaign. State support accounts for slightly more than 6 percent of the institution's operating costs.
