Free robotics workshops offered for kids 8-12
Global Tech Kids of Summerville will offer four free robotics workshops for children ages 8 to 14 as part of the company's grand opening celebrations and community outreach program.

Global Tech Kids in Summerville is sponsoring four free robotics workshops, Saturday through July 26, for children ages 8 to 14. Children will have opportunities to learn about many different types of robots, see how a robot is built, and participate in a fun-filled interactive robot demonstration. Children can participate in fun-filled interactive robot demonstrations and will get opportunities to learn about many different types of robots and see how a robot is built, Global Tech owner Donna Batts said.
Batts said the workshops will be held on four Saturdays, beginning April 26 and concluding in July. Three workshops are set for Summerville and one for North Charleston. Advanced registration is suggested due to limited seating.
Global Tech Kids is a new computer, science, and technology enrichment center at 414 Old Trolley Road, Suite B, in Summerville, she said.
"We make learning advanced skills fast, easy and fun for children by combining education with hands-on activities like games, tournaments, and contests with prize giveaways," Batts said.
"Our mission is to improve the technological literacy among the children in our community by giving them a head start into the vast world of computers, science, and technology," Batts said.
The workshop schedule is:
-- April 26, 10-11:30 a.m. at the Dorchester County Library, 76 Old Trolley Road.
-- May 17, 1-2:30 p.m. at Global Tech Kids, 414 Old Trolley Road.
-- June 21, 1:30-3 p.m. Summerville Family YMCA, 140 S. Cedar St.
-- July 26th, 1-2:30 p.m. at the Dorchester Road Regional Library, 6325 Dorchester Road, North Charleston.
