--The Walterboro Cruisers will host a cruise-in 6-8 p.m. on Washington Street in downtown Walterboro. There will be door prizes and a drawing. "Car of the Month" will be selected by a local sponsor. For information, contact Cathy at 844-8507 or David at 538-8949.
--The 20th annual Hemingway Bar-B-Que Shag Festival and L.C. Stone Memorial Car Show will be held at Hemingway Recreation Park, front field. Free admission. Day-of-show registration, which is $20, will be 9 a.m.-noon. The show is sponsored by Winyah Cruisers of Georgetown. Awards are for top three cars in each category, including General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Corvette, Studebaker and import; top truck in each category including GM, Ford, Dodge, Studebaker and others; sponsor's choice and ladies' choice, and top three host cars chosen by participants. --The first "Vettes Doin' Charleston" all-Corvette show, presented by the Coastal Carolina Corvette Club, will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Tanger Outlet parking lot on International Boulevard. Registration, 10 a.m.-noon, is $20. There will be dash plaques and a poker walk. Classes are years 1953-62, 1963-67, 1968-82, 1984-90, 1991-96, 1997-2000, 2001-04 and 2005-08; pace cars and ZR-1s for all years. --The 26th annual Atlanta Journal-Constitution International Auto Show will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. There will be more than 600 new cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles on display from 39 different manufacturers. Included are concept vehicles, pre-production vehicles, exotics and alternative-fuel vehicles. Visit www.ajcautoshow.com.
Tuesday
--The local Italian car club will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Bacco Restaurant at Houston Northcutt and Coleman boulevards in Mount Pleasant. The club will try to have space designated for their cars so people can come by to view them. Anyone interested in joining the group for dinner can e-mail scogl@aol.com. Wednesday
--Charleston-Lowcountry Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America will host a car show 6-8:30 p.m. at Joe Bessinger's Bar B Que on College Park Road in Summerville. Registration is $5. Classes include years 1900-42, 1943-59, 1960-72 and 1973-2008; Corvettes; imports; lowrider/tuners; motorcycles; Mustangs; street rods; and trucks. Thursday
--A car show will be held 6-8:30 p.m. at the new CiCi's Pizza, 4950 Center Park Boulevard at Tanger Outlets. Admission is free. All classes. Trophies for Best of Show and Manager's Choice. For information, contact Larry Bowman at 729-6820.
April 26
--Street Rods Unlimited is hosting its 15th annual Santee Super Saturday event at the Santee Outlet Park, located at Interstate 95 and S.C. Highway 6 (at Exit 98) from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration, 8-11:30 a.m., is $20. There will be awards for the Top 30. --The Low Country Deacons Alliance & Its Auxiliaries Inc. will host its first car show 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Texas Roadhouse and Super Kmart parking lot, 8571 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston. Texas Roadhouse and Super Kmart are sponsors. Registration is $20 a car. Classes include sport compact, street rods, Mustangs, junior dragster and trucks. Proceeds benefit local charities and a graduating high school seniors scholarship program. There will be door prizes and four show awards. May 3
--The Charleston Antique Tractor and Engine Society will hold its first Antique Tractor Show 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at Noels Christmas Tree Farm, 1215 Brownswood Rd. on Johns Island. Admission is free. The event will have hayrides, an antique tractor exhibit, farm equipment, antique engines, antique trucks and cars and pulling lawn mowers. Concessions will include barbecue, peanuts and hot dogs. May 7
--Bessinger's B-B-Q at 1602 Savannah Highway will hold a Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show 6-9 p.m. Registration is $5. There will be three trophies per class. Divisions include cars for years 1900-42, 1943-59, 1960-71 and 1972-2008; street rods, trucks and motorcycles. Music by the Cruise-O-Matics. Shows will be held the first Wednesday of the month through November. For information, contact Tom Jameson at 571-2264.
July 12
--The Sports Car Club of America, in conjunction with Rick Hendrick BMW, the BMW Car Club of North America and Tire Rack, will conduct a Street Survival School for teen drivers at North Charleston Coliseum. The event was moved from its original date March 16 to allow more time for planning and promotion. Teens will be given a full-day course aimed at increasing their safe-driving awareness and skills. Classroom and hands-on training in their own car will give real-world experience not afforded in traditional driver training. Visit www.streetsurvival.org.
