Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Cheese is full of protein and calcium, so it must be good for you, right? Think again. Here's a quiz to find out how much you know. True or false:

1. Regular cream cheese has twice as much fat as light cream cheese sold in a tub.

2. If you add cheese to your McDonald's Quarter Pounder, you've just added 5 grams of saturated fat to your meal.

3. Choosing part-skim mozzarella instead of regular mozzarella saves you half the fat.

4. Average Americans eat about 2 pounds of cheese a month.

5. Per ounce, Parmesan and Romano have less fat than other cheeses.

6. One serving of cheese is a 1 1/4-inch cube.

Answers: 1. True; 2. True; 3. False. It saves you 1 gram of fat per ounce; 4. False. We eat more; 5. False. But a little of these dry cheeses goes a long way; 6. True.
