Cirstea pulls upset at Family Circle Cup

Third-seeded Anna Chakvetadze suffered a second-round upset loss today at the Family Circle Cup, falling to No. 86-ranked Sorana Cirstea of Romania 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.

It was the first WTA Tour victory over a top 10 player for the 18-year-old Cirstea, who won a three-set match against American Vania King on Monday. Chakvetadze, ranked No. 6, had a first-round bye.

Also today, No. 8 seed Dinara Safina of Russia beat Lourdes Dominguez of Spain 6-1, 6-4 . American Jill Craybas beat fellow American Varvara Lepchenko 6-2, 6-1. Fifth-seeded Serena Williams plays tonight.
