Federal disaster aid denied for storm
COLUMBIA — State officials said a request to have nine counties, including Berkeley, declared federal disaster areas after the March 15 storms and tornadoes has been denied.
Gov. Mark Sanford says he has now sent a letter to the Federal Small Business Administration asking it to offer low-interest loans to people and businesses in Aiken, Allendale and Williamsburg counties. Insurers said the storms caused more than $40 million in damage.

Nothing like a GOP administration not looking out for a GOP leaning state. Maybe this is punishemnt for not signing on to the real id mess.

Obviously we didn't meet the criteria for federal assistance. Lots of specific criteria have to be met and there are certain things that have to be done at the state level as well to be eligible. Also, while these were the same storms that caused disaster elsewhere, as tragic as they were to those impacted, SC as a whole fared much better than other states in the storm's path.

The SC tornado victims must get up on the roofs of damaged properties with signs and wave at helicopters for government cheese to get any response from FEMA. Take it from the people who wouldn't leave New Orleans before Katrina. That is how you do it even if they are not surrounded by floods. It will make for good TV.

It's not the job of the federal government to dole out tax dollar band-aids every time something bad happens.

Is Louisiana a Bush state? How about Tennessee? Any of the other states that were hit by the same storm? Prosperous: just stick to the facts.
