Rock the Block

From 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Saturday, area college students can enjoy live music, fun, food and games at the 5th annual Rock the Block party on George Street at the College of Charleston between Coming and St. Philip streets.

An alcohol-free event, the party is sponsored by the College Community Coalition and is open to all college students. Highlights of the party include a mechanical bull, a bungee run, a climbing wall, a henna tattoo artist, face-painting and great prize giveaways.

'Legends Of Tennis'

The Legends Of Tennis series, a day of tennis exhibition matches benefiting The Miracle Match Foundation and MUSC Children's Hospital, will make a stop at The North Charleston Coliseum at 3 p.m. Sunday.

A special celebrity mixed doubles match will feature pro players Pete Sampras and Jim Courier, paired with College of Charleston head basketball coach Bobby Cremins and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford in an eight-game pro set. The feature match will be between Sampras and Courier, who will play the best two out of three sets.

Tickets can be purchased at the coliseum ticket office, Ticketmaster outlets (including select Publix grocery stores), charge by phone at 554-6060, or go online at ticketmaster.com.

Ticket prices are $75, $45 and $25, plus ticketing fees.

Jerry Tachoir

The Monday Night Concert Series at the College of Charleston's School of the Arts will present Grammy-nominated contemporary jazz vibraphonist Jerry Tachoir (pronounced Tash-wah) on Monday at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip St. The program includes original compositions by award-winning composer/pianist Marlene Tachoir, who will also perform.

Jerry Tachoir is one of the most in demand mallet artists in the world. As leader of Group Tachoir, this contemporary jazz ensemble has performed at most of the major concert halls and jazz festivals throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Jerry Tachoir earned the first Bachelor's Degree in Applied Music for the Vibraphone and Mallet Instruments and extensive studies in arranging and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Admission is $5 at the door and free for College of Charleston students with valid ID. For more information, visit www.tachoir.com.

'Bowenstock'

Lowcountry Environmental Education Programs (LEEP) will host the organization's 8th annual and final Bowenstock event at Bowen's Island near Folly Beach from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Bowenstock will feature the local music of Henry's Attic and Live Oak.

Frogmore Stew will be provided with admission. Beer is not included in the price of admission, but will be available for purchase.

Admission is $20 per person, college students receive a $5 discount with a student ID. Tickets will be sold at the door.

LEEP is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure that all students in and around Charleston County have opportunities for high-quality, hands-on environmental education, regardless of their location and/or economic background.

Bowen's Island is located at 1870 Bowens Island Road.
