Top of the Second Power Poll
1. South Carolina Football: After the Gamecocks - ranked sixth in the nation - lost Saturday to Vanderbilt, did anyone else find themselves humming "Anchors Aweigh" circa 1984?
2. South Carolina Stingrays: The Stingrays were forced to open the season without Matt Reid, the team's leading scorer last year, because he was bitten by a copperhead. C'mon, Matt, man up! You're a hockey player!
3. Clemson Football: The Tiger mascot set a school record for pushups in a single quarter (210) during Clemson's 70-14 victory over Central Michigan.
4. World Series: Fox couldn't have been too thrilled the Rockies, a team which had no games broadcast this season by Fox, ESPN or ESPN2, made it to the World Series. Well, at least a potential ratings disaster was partially averted when the Red Sox rallied past the Indians.
5. NBA: The Phoenix Suns beat the Boston Celtics in 7 games to win the NBA championship in an EA Sports NBA Live '08 simulation. Good, now maybe we can forgo the season.
6. ESPN: Anyone out there miss Dan Patrick? Didn't think so.
7. National Football League: Nothing beats the National Football League for TV ratings, but how far would those numbers slip if fantasy football were outlawed?
8. Reality TV: Jose Canseco is having trouble finding a network willing to air his reality series - 'No Way, Jose' - in which people dare him to jump out of airplanes and other fun stuff. How does this show NOT get picked up?!
9. Coachspeak: The coach who first uttered the non-word "out-athleted" should have to do 100 wind sprints.
10. Fantasy Football: California wildfires have brought tragedy to the San Diego area, but one burning issue has not been addressed: Will this have an adverse effect on LaDainian Tomlinson's fantasy performance this weekend?
