Sailor graduates nuclear power training
Ensign Andrew Jarrett, grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Vance Crouse and son of Steve and Elaine Jarrett of Charleston, successfully completed the six-month program at the Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit.
He graduated with honors from Virginia Tech in May 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. His next assignment is in the Submarine Officers' Basic School in Groton, Conn., for three months, after which he will be assigned to the Trident ballistic missile nuclear submarine Tennessee out of Kings Bay, Ga. Jarrett is married to the former Melissa Sanner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jarrett's younger brother, Paul, a computer science major entering his third year at Virginia Tech, recently returned from a Pacific cruise aboard the Kentucky, a Trident ballistic missile nuclear submarine operating out of Washington state.
The Jarretts come from a long line of military service members going back to the Revolutionary War.
More recently, their father, a Naval Academy graduate, commanded the Daniel Boone. Their maternal grandfather, Crouse, is a retired Air Force colonel, and their paternal grandfather was a Marine.
