It's another Thursday and it's time for another installment of "Here, Listen to This," Preview's weekly exercise in subjecting some local to a few tunes.

This week, we get input from local producer Buttaz, aka Brice Lampkin.

With a foot firmly planted in the world of hip-hop, Lampkin has been making head-nod-worthy beats for more than a decade.

To hear some of his tracks, visit his Myspace page, www.myspace.com/b73music. If you're a fan of good hip-hop , you will not be disappointed. Now, let's hand the turntables and the headphones over to Buttaz.

Super Lover Cee & Casanova Rud — "Girls I Got 'em Locked": Underrated emcees. Definitely. They're using part of Wilson Picket's "Engine Engine No. 9." I'm about to catch a flashback. You're stealing my fire.

For an 1988 flashback, visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=dM8FkbmsjEs, or use the keywords "Super Lover," "Rud" and "Girls."

Quincy Jones — "Summer In The City": This and "Tampin' " by Rhino Oaks were the first thing I ever sampled when I was making instrumentals by looping from tape to tape. "Summer In The City" has been looped by some of the best groups: Pharcyde used it, Black Moon used it, Roots used it. It's one of those songs that's wide open to use because there are so many changes within the track.

Going to www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kPCRh6HdgI or using the keywords "Quincy", "Jones" and "Summer" will treat you to an aural experience that has provided plenty of inspiration for many musicians and producers.

Blood On The Wall — "Reunite On Ice": This is interesting. It starts out like a stabbed-out version of U2's "New Year's Day" then, uh, I actually like this. The musicianship is pretty good. I also like the title a lot ... it makes me wanna reminisce on all that ridiculousness of Reunite. (Groans) It makes me wanna find a pink champale shirt now and go through the Ernest and Gallo winery.

To see this Danny Perez directed video, use the keywords "Blood," "Wall" and "Reunite" or visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0vqBlnRd8E

Jermaine Stewart — "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off": ...Gym Class Heroes recently remade this. It couldn't be more obvious that Jermaine Stewart was on fire. And then he has this line here (stops to let the lyric "I'm not a piece of meat" play through the speakers). Jermaine Stewart, you were right! You're not a piece of meat. You're right. You're not a piece of meat, you're all bone with your scrawny self. I can't lie, it was nice song back in the day. But I think I enjoyed it more in a tongue-in-cheek aspect. I know he had a little career in Europe as well.

Using the keywords "Jermaine," "Stewart" and "Clothes" or using the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID_N7rv-iN8 will give you a taste of what Jermaine is trying to put down.

Reh Dogg — "Why Must I Cry?": Aaaaaah! You're nuts for making me listen to this song. I've heard all this dude's stuff. He's got, like, a double album's worth of music. And you, you're sick for even having this on your iPod. What's so hilarious about Reh Dogg is that he's dead serious in his songs and his videos. The video for this is on a whole other level. That fact that the dude will rap naked in the shower while covered in soap bubbles and crying is amazing. The fact that he raps while driving in a broke car with leopard seat covers is — I mean, c'mon — what's with the leopard seat covers? I'll tell you why you must cry, Reh. You're crying in the shower, rapping and patting yourself down with a loofa sponge. I'll tell you why you must cry. You're rapping while holding what is obviously a pellet gun. I'll tell you why you must cry. You're rapping while sneaking around through the woods and doing some sort of brokedown bankhead bounce dance. (Sighs) I give Reh credit though, he doesn't stop even though everyone else tells him to do otherwise. Have you ever wanted to witness a train wreck in hip-hop video form? You can if you visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mWW6kRITEY or use the keywords "Reh," "Dogg" and "Cry."

Ultramagnetic M.C.'s — "Raise It Up": Ultramag. I love Ultramag. This is a great song. This was their triumphant return after their first album "Critical Beatdown." For me, that first album was amazing. This album, "Four Horsemen" was their third, and people started paying attention to them again since they got signed to Wild Pitch, who were getting a lot of attention at the time. The video was on some other level. You had Kool Keith, the best member of the group, walking around the street talking on a phone and wearing a pink cape. I remember seeing them on "Rap City." Kool Keith had a doll named Larry and he kept talking to it. He's always been about being in his own world, which he even says in this song. Ced Gee, on the other hand, just got worse and started biting other people's style. What can I say nice about Ced Gee. Then you had Godfather Don guesting here and just ripping the microphone. If anyone goes looking for an Ultramagnetic music, do yourself a favor and stay away from the newer albums .The last one was just (the worst). It was so bad that it hurt me inside.

To see the video that made Buttaz reminisce , visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5lG6OCeN2Q or use the keywords "Ultramagnetic" and "Raise."

Funny how life works.

Back in 1985, when I was just 10-years-old, my buddy Andy Nelms and I spent the entire summer trying to catch lizards. Every time we would catch one, we would put it in a container, label it and observe the lizard's behavior. Fast forward 25 years later, and wouldn't you know it, I still make poop jokes.
