Comcast of Charleston will give the Avery Research Center at the College of Charleston an $11,000 grant to fund the Avery Scholars' Program and the Summer African American History Camps.

The broadband provider also has given $5,000 to the South Carolina Firefighters Association in support of the Charleston-area families who lost their loved ones in the June 18 fire at the Sofa Super Store.

"We're proud to be able to support an important organization like the Avery Research Center," said Bill Watson, vice president and general manager of Comcast's Charleston system, in a press release.
