A driver involved in a fatal accident on Ashley Phosphate Road Wednesday has been charged with reckless homicide, North Charleston police said.

Michael Cossette, 18, address unavailable, was scheduled to appear in Charleston County bond court Thursday, police Lt. Melvin Cumbee said.

The wreck killed Richard Debutts, 48, of West Ashley, who was riding in the back of an Isuzu pickup Cossette was driving, authorities said.

The pickup ran a red light at Cross County Road and struck a Chevrolet Camaro around 12:45 p.m., police said. Cossette was arrested after being treated at Trident Medical Center.
