Fire started in loading dock, ATF confirms

Staff report
Saturday, June 23, 2007

Authorities investigating Monday’s fire at the Sofa Super Store confirmed this morning that the massive blaze started in the loading dock area of the building, as reported in the Post and Courier earlier this week.

The loading dock sits between the store's showroom and the warehouse located at the rear of the property. It's where store employees would round up pieces of furniture before loading them on to trucks for delivery.

Ken Chisholm, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, said that the group has concluded their on-scene investigation. He wouldn't reveal other findings, citing that the "white collar" portion of the investigation is still ongoing.
