Private gifts to USC increase 28 percent during 2006-07
COLUMBIA — A more-organized focus on identifying potential donors and improved telemarketing helped the University of South Carolina increase private giving by 28 percent in the fiscal year that ended June 30, the school says.
About 38,000 people donated almost $67 million dollars to the university in 2006-07, Vice President of University Advancement Brad Choate said. That's up from $52.3 million given by 26,500 donors in the previous school year.
"It's a tangible indication of support from our alumni and friends and yet another indication of our momentum on a number of fronts," university President Andrew Sorensen said.
It's the second-highest annual total during Sorensen's five years at the school. The highest — $82.4 million — came in 2005 and included a single $45 million gift from Lake City financier and USC alumna Darla Moore to the business school that bears her name.
